Queens Taken Down by Jacks
« on: May 03, 2006, 10:18:42 pm »

Last night, about 65 players left in a tournament on Full Tilt Poker.  Full ring at the table I am at.  I have about 4200 in chips.  Blinds at 150/300 with a 25 ante.  Im the third shortest stack at the table.  Here's how it goes down:

I look at the hole cards, Qs, QH. I'm in middle position, three left of the big.  I raise it to 900 after two players fold.  Immediately behind me, a player with about 6000 in chips makes it 2000 to go.  The remainder of the table folds, and its back to me to call 1100.  With only about 3300 in chips in front of me, and the blinds hitting for 450 a round not including the antes, I move in.

I sense I am ahead when he hesitates a good deal before calling.  He eventually ponies up, and the cards are revield.  He's sitting on pocket Jacks.  I'm stoked, a big favorite to double up and insure I finish in the money here.  The tourney pays the top 45 and top position is over 3K.

The flop comes down blanks, and the rainbow doesn't improve his odds any.  He has a club I don't have, and I don't like giving him any additional outs.  The turn is a King, but the rest of the board is no help, so he only has two outs on the river.  Love my chances.

But I think if you've read this far, you know the way the rest of this story turns out.  A blank didn't hit on the river, and my ladies led me out of the tounament just a handful of places off the bubble.

Oh well, I'll be back in another in a few more days, and will be back to brag when I do make the final table of one of these guaranteed tournaments.

I feel you Vina, playing 4-8 last night did pretty well until the game went to a 6-12 kill.  Got AJs preflop and made it 12 to go.  Six callers (only one guy folded!) and the flop pairs my Jack with two undercards on the board.  One guy leads out the bet, and I again make it 12.  Calling stations all, none fold!  Six players and the turn puts two spades on the board.  Check to me and I make it 12 to go again.  One guy drops, 4 callers.  My suited AJ is hearts so I dont want another spade.  Too bad the turn throws out a third spade and now I have a bettor into me.  The three other players fold and I pay the guy off another $12 in chips to see him turn over his QUEEN HIGH FLUSH!  Drawing to the third best flush with no pairs or backdoor straigh draws or the like.  My god, was betting it all the way and this homo called me down on a preflop raise with Q9s, spades!  MORONS! Ugh....

So wanna meet for a drink and discuss the issues...... lol :-*
